Trezor.io/start is the official starting point for setting up your Trezor hardware wallet. A Trezor wallet is a secure way to store and manage cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and others, ensuring maximum protection against online threats. Here’s a concise guide to help you get started:
Step 1: Visit the Official Website
Begin by opening your browser and navigating to Trezor.io/start. This ensures you’re following the official and secure setup process.
Step 2: Download Trezor Suite
Trezor Suite is the official software for managing your hardware wallet. On the website, select the appropriate version for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux). Download and install the application.
Important: Avoid downloading software from unofficial sources to protect your funds from phishing attacks.
Step 3: Connect Your Trezor Wallet
Use the provided USB cable to connect your Trezor device to your computer. Open Trezor Suite, which will recognize the device and guide you through the initialization process.
Step 4: Firmware Installation
If you’re using the Trezor for the first time, it won’t have firmware installed. Trezor Suite will prompt you to install the latest firmware. This is essential for security. During the process:
Verify the firmware origin on the device screen.
Confirm installation by interacting with your Trezor device.
Step 5: Set Up Your Wallet
Once the firmware is installed, you’ll be asked to create a new wallet:
Standard Wallet: A regular wallet without a passphrase.
Hidden Wallet: An additional layer of security using a passphrase.
Choose the wallet type based on your preference and security needs.
Step 6: Backup Your Recovery Seed
The recovery seed is a set of 12, 18, or 24 words that acts as a backup for your wallet. Write it down carefully and store it in a secure, offline location.
Warning: Never share this seed or store it digitally. Anyone with access to it can control your funds.
